I first saw this book series, Make It Yourself: The Complete Step-by-Step Library of Needlework and Crafts, in my friend Katie Hatch's office (she often wears fashions she designed and made). I liked the books so much, that I bought and assembled my own set at around $1 a piece.
This 1977 book, Arabesque: Decorative Needlework from the Holy Land by Ziva Amir, contains 98 color counted-stitch embroidery patterns of traditional designs from the Near East. (I love how these patterns could easily pass for computer pixel art.)
