This 1977 book, Arabesque: Decorative Needlework from the Holy Land by Ziva Amir, contains 98 color counted-stitch embroidery patterns of traditional designs from the Near East. (I love how these patterns could easily pass for computer pixel art.)

Those remind me of the indian bead bracelets we used to make.

Inspiring colors and incredible patterns! Needlepoint reminds me of pixels as well!
