American artist Robert Rauschenberg is well-known for his "Combines" of the 1950s, in which non-traditional materials and objects were employed in innovative combinations. The Gagosian Gallery has a major exhibition of his painting and sculpture on now through Dec. 18th. This is one I'm not going to miss. *[Cardbird I and III, 1971.]
I actually went to the opening of this show-- it was fantastic! I really encourage you to see the exhibit if you can make it. There are some pieces in there that you look at and just know and feel what a master Rauschenberg was.

I saw one of these pieces in a printmaking show at the Portland Art Museum. Super awesome how some of the cardboard is real and some of it is printed to look like cardboard. It's hard to tell unless you look at it closely.
